Art Supplies & Special Visit for Students Impacted by Tornado

In February, ReNEW Schaumburg Elementary in New Orleans East suffered significant structural damage from a tornado. Since then, students and teachers have been relocated to Gaudet Elementary while repairs begin on their campus.

To provide more creative opportunities to these displaced students, the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts has awarded ReNEW Schaumburg a custom art supply kit through our George's Art Closet program. Teachers will use the supplies within their classrooms, as well as in after school programming.

Pre-K students at Schaumburg received a special visit from Executive Director Jacques Rodrigue, who shared George Rodrigue's children's books and a drawing activity with them.

Jacques Rodrigue reads "Why Is Blue Dog Blue?" with the students.

About George's Art Closet

Many teachers are often faced with the problem of inadequate funding for visual art supplies and struggle to provide meaningful arts experiences for their students. George's Art Closet is a program that addresses this need by awarding art supply kits to Louisiana art teachers whose funding does not otherwise allow for the expense.
